Frequently Asked Questions
things we are asked most often...
What size dogs does Posh pet Salon Groom?
Posh Pet salon caters to dog breeds under 35lbs.
How long has Posh pet salon been in business?
Posh Pet salon was established in Rincon Valley Santa Rosa California on july 4th 1995. Before opening the current salon owner was a breeder and exhibitor of toy poodles.
Is Posh Pet Salon cage-free?
Because sanitization is of the utmost importance to us, we like our environment to be easily cleaned in the event arriving pets urinate, slobber, have bugs or carry infectious debris in their coats, we do not use cages which can trap such things and be difficult to sanitize. it is also our experience that (especially for non-crate trained pets) pets prefer feeling free and close to us. However we do not allow the pets to roam freely about the salon to avoid fighting or attempted breeding or territorial marking, Instead we utilize an individual restraint system that keeps pets calmly near each other where they can socialize while still maintaining their personal space. They kept in enough space to sit, lay down and mingle a bit but are still kept safe.
How long does grooming take?
Unlike most traditional salons posh Pet Salon does not have pets 3-4 hours. Instead we take pets throughout the day by appointment and begin working on them immediately. We generally tell everyone 2 hours or less for haircuts. Baths are usually faster maybe 45-60 minutes. We can either give you an exact pick up time or text or call you when your pet is ready for pick up. We can move the flow of pets comfortable thru the groom process quickly getting the fresh and back in your arms ASAP!
This way they know we are here to make them feel better (not punish them with a long stay) and you returning quickly means they see us as a quick visit like a babysitting :)
What breeds do you specialize in?
mostly, doodles and mixes, shih-tzu's, cocoapoo's, yorkshire terrier's, cavalier king charles, long & smooth dachsunds, havanese, all types of chihuahua's and poodle 's and poodle mixes.
etc.....
How often should a small dog be groomed?
We recommend 4-6 week standing appointments for haircuts & baths. This allows us to assess and prevent skin issues related to dander, allergies, matted coat, shedding, tangles etc but also allows us to keep the ear canal clean, the nails sanded smooth and the anal glands healthy. The added bonus is that the more frequently your dog comes to visit us and has a pleasant fast in/out experience the more they will want to come see us.
Do you groom nervous dogs?
Yes we will groom nervous dogs and try to get them to overcome their nervousness as much as possible. Sometimes this means they might need to come in at the end of the day when the salon has few other pets and there are fewer distractions so they get all the attention. We will not groom any dogs that are aggressive biters, or if we feel the dog or our groomers might be injured in any way.
